Important things to Know when using Cialis

Since Cialis is part of the PDE-5 inhibitor drug class, it shares its precautions with other similar drugs. Each of these drugs has its benefits and risks, but all have been safely taken by millions of men around the world. Any concerns should be discussed with your physician, as certain individuals react differently than others.

When taking Cialis (or other erectile dysfunction drugs) it is important to avoid taking nitrate-based medications. While these drugs are typically prescribed for various heart or chest pains, they also include recreational drugs called "poppers." If you use nitrate-based drugs in combination with Cialis, you could suffer from a dangerous drop in blood pressure that could result in heart attack or even death.

Cialis should only be taken once per 24-hour period. If you take more than the recommended dose, you could experience negative side effects and a prolonged, painful erection that could result in permanent damage to the penis. If you experience an erection lasting 4 hours, seek emergency medical attention. You should also stay away from alcohol while using Cialis as it can decrease the effectiveness of the drug and increase the risk of experiencing side effects. Finally, you should not take other erectile dysfunction drugs at the same time as using Cialis.

It is important to discuss any health conditions you have or medications you are using with your physician. Certain conditions will require the dosage of Cialis to be adjusted in order to get you the maximum effectiveness without harm to your health. If you have any of the following health conditions, make sure your doctor is informed:

• Vision problems

• Liver or kidney disorders

• Recent stroke, heart failure, or heart attack

• Restrictions placed by a doctor on your sexual activity

• Problems with blood pressure

• A history of stomach ulcers

• Heart rhythm problems or other heart conditions

• Blood cell or bleeding disorders

Do not use Cialis if you are allergic to tadalafil, and do not take if you are using another drug containing tadalafil.

Tell your doctor if you eat or drink grapefruit products. Using grapefruit or its juice with Cialis can result in different amounts of the drug being absorbed into the body.

There are side effects associated with Cialis. Inform your physician when any side effect is too severe or doesn't go away: heartburn, diarrhea, cough, headache, pain in the stomach/back/muscles/arms/or legs, or nausea. If you experience other, more serious side effects, contact a doctor immediately.
